Steve was born in Friend, Nebraska where he went to grade school. In 1945 he moved to Lincoln where he graduated from Lincoln High. While still in high school, he joined the Naval Reserve. After high school, he attended the University of Nebraska for one year. When the Korean war broke out, he enlisted in the Navy, and served in Korea. In 1956 he married Nancy, then was awarded a scholarship at Purdue University, and advanced to Chief Petty Officer in 1957. In 1960, he attended OCS and became an Ensign, returned to Purdue and in 1961 graduated with a BSEE. From 1963 to 1966 he attended the US Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey and received a MSEE. In 1968, the family with four daughters was transferred to NAS Whidbey where Steve retired from the Navy as a Lieutenant Commander in 1975. Since his retirement from the Navy, Steve has been a college teacher and computer store owner and is living on a tree farm-natural area near Marblemount and Rockport, WA, where he and Nancy have built a house. He is now retired, doing volunteer work with The League of Women Voters and the Upper Skagit Bald Eagle Festival, and working on genealogy.
