Notes for Gyles Roberts
The earliest reference to Giles Roberts is found in 1658 when he was living in Scarborough Main he is said to have married a daughter of Godfrey and Alice Frost Sheldon. His wife probably died before January 1666 as she is not mentioned in his will. He left his property for the raising of his five children to his brother-in-law Arthur Alger and his brother William Sheldon. Since Arthur Alger married Ann Sheldon, a sister to Giles Roberts’ wife, both William Sheldon and Arthur Alger were brothers-in-law to Giles. The names of three of the children of Giles and (Sheldon) Roberts are listed in the estate papers of their uncle, Arthur Alger, as Abraham Roberts, David Roberts, and Giles Roberts.88
