Notes for William Benjamin Beckham III

In 1754, William Beckham was a member of the Granville County, NC Militia in the Regiment commanded by Colonel William Eaton and in the Company commanded by Captain Suga Jones. William Beckham was also a soldier from North Carolin a during the Revolutionary War. He apparantly did not file for a pension be cause the pension records in the National Archives in Washington, DC does not coontain an application. This is not unusual because many veterans of kthe Revolutionary War felt that their service was necessary and did not require a ny financial assistance for this deed.Although we do not have his Revolutiona ry War record, it is obvious that he did serve because many of the Beckham da ughters used his Revolutionary War record to join the Daughters of the Americ an Revolution (DAR) (Taken from Beckham Family of America, by James Ervin Heidlebaugh, 3rd edition, 1997.) The will of William Beckham, Sr. is filed in Kershaw County, South Carolina.254
