Notes for George Osborn Roberts
George Roberts and Marian Dearden met and became engaged in 1887. In 1889 George Roberts traveled to Liverpool were he and Marian were married and they spent their honeymoon in the English Lake District. Returning to Chicago, the couple lived at 5479 Ellis Ave.

George Roberts purchased an existing hardware business in 1888 and pursued this line of work for several years. In 1903 he joined the Standard Forging Company and rose to the position of vice president by 1915.

Marian (Dearden) Roberts died in 1908 and in 1909 George Roberts married Jesse Morrell, a daughter of the above-mentioned George Morrell and his first wife, Helen Howard. The Roberts family, consisting of George, Jesse, Agnes, Laurence, Jean and Constance, lived at 5314 University Ave. and were members of St. James Methodist church. George Roberts was active in this major church on Chicago's South side and served in various capacities and offices from the time it was established in 1895. After the tragic (suicide?) death of George Roberts by drowning, his widow, Jesse (Morrell) Roberts, returned to England with her two daughters.
