May Spradling, the second wife, had her own son when they married. They lived for some time in Kansas City, Missouri.
The 1920 Nebraska Census census shows Rodney Karl was born in Wyoming. (If so, probably Lander). Family records compiled by Stephen Johnson show Rodney being born in Curtis, Nebraska.
Karl once said, hopefully jokingly, "I've lost my mind and I'm trying to find it".
Karl served in WWII as a Private in the 211th Military Police Co.

Carolyn Grigorov, 94, of 629 Coddington Rd., died on Sunday, July 27th 2025, surrounded by family. She is survived by sons Peter and Matthew of Ithaca, Marc of Forest Grove, Oregon, and Andrew of Worcester, Massachusetts; siblings Frandy and Kathe; grandchildren Grigor, Nikolai, Marianna, Ruth, Jaana, Anastacia, Marc, Sarah, and Benjamin. Carolyn was born and raised in Crete, Nebraska then moved East to attend Swarthmore College, where she graduated with a BA in English literature. In 1952, while studying at the Sorbonne in Paris, France, she met Grigor Grigorov, a Bulgarian refugee and student. They married in 1954 then moved to Ithaca the next year. Family and friends knew her as a hardworking, politically active, witty, and elegant woman with a discerning eye for art. The New York Times, The Nation, The New Yorker, The Atlantic, and Nation Geographic always graced her magazine table. She studied accounting to help with the family business, Contemporary Trends, becoming vice president when it incorporated. As a dedicated organizer for the Democratic Party, member of The League of Women Voters, and longtime Town of Ithaca Board member, she strove for fairness and compassion in government. She was active with charity work, making meal runs for Loaves and Fishes through her association with the Episcopal Church, as well as supporting Nature Conservancy, Doctors Without Borders, and many other organizations. Carloyn’s children remember her for so many things--her nightly readings from C.S. Lewis, Tolkien, and the Green Book of Fairy Tales; courageous travels when Dad couldn’t go, where they heard Mom say the occasional ‘oh dry up’ and ‘why don’t you go jump in the lake,’ neither of which they ever did but probably should have. When her children were little, she sang songs of her own composition and taught them to enjoy peanut butter and lettuce sandwiches. Her kids would sometimes find pictures clipped from magazines, humorous captions added, hidden inside their school lunch bags. Whatever she tried, her intellect shined through. Donations to a local public radio station or food bank would no doubt please her spirit.
